Small Setback

Today we found out that my mom has developed a blod clot in her left leg. While not the best of news, she is taking it well. Apparently, developing a clot in the left leg when you had surgery on your right hip, means you get to be on injectable blood thinners for the rest of your life. It isn't uncommon in patients who have had cancer to be more prone to blood clots because their blood becomes thicker. Due to the blod clot, the earliest that she would move to rehab is Wednesday. We did find her a place nearby which seems very nice. I'll let you know where and when she moves. In the meantime, my mom is sick of hospital food but doesn't want anything from outside either. They keep bringing her Ensure shakes and she keeps sending them home with all of us. Her appetite isn't the best but she is eating.

A few people have stopped by to see her or have called her which helps break up the days. It has been the perfect amount of visitors and calls - not too much to overwhelm her. Thank you for all your love, prayers, and support. We are truly blessed!

No Rehab Yet

So late yesterday the hospital doctor determined that we probably needed to keep my mom in the hospital a few more days. We may be looking at going to rehab Sunday or Monday. Who knows? We just try to keep up with the plan of the moment. Have a happy, blue skies, and windy Saturday!

Starting Up Again

Many people have requested that I start up this blog again so that you can stay updated about my mom. Let's play catch up.

My mom fell at home last week and broke her hip. She was admitted to the hospital and had hip surgery on Monday, May 16. The surgery went really well and she is still in Good Samaritan but we are expecting a discharge to a rehabiliation soon. Her ortho doctors have released her to rehab but we are running some last minute checks to ensure that she is medically stable before she is discharged. We are in the wait and see mode. I'll let you know.

For now she is doing well mentally. A little nervous about rehab and she would really like to go home but other than that, she is doing well. She was able to move herself from her bed to the wheelchair today - slowly and with some help but she is much stronger today than yesterday.

That's all I know for now.
